Guide to Keeping Your ROBLOX Account Safe

Many ROBLOX users claim that they got “hacked”. This is generally not the case. Most of the time, they got scammed somehow. ROBLOX accounts are very secure, and just like most other websites, unless there is something like the Heartbleed bug (if you don’t know about it look it up; it doesn’t affect ROBLOX), you’re fine for the most part. And besides, the Heartbleed bug goes after stuff like credit card info, not ROBLOX users. Just like anything on the web, there is no real way to tell 100% sure that you are safe, but there are basic methods you can take to avoid being scammed out of your ROBLOX account.

There are rumors that ROBLOX accounts are “hackable”. Ignore these rumors, as they are definately not true. Think about it; if they were, wouldn’t users on the front page be owned by 100 different people every day? Definately lol.

The best way to keep your account safe is to NEVER tell anyone your password. If they are offering you Builders Club, they are lying. No one on the web is nice enough to give you free ROBUX or Builders Club.

Another common scam is that users ask another user for their ROBLOSECURITY info. ROBLOSECURITY is the name of the cookie ROBLOX uses to keep track of whose logged in. Cookies are always local to your computer; unless you tell someone your cookie. Then they can get into your account! So never tell anyone your ROBLOSECURITY cookie!

There is a common scam where users claim that you can “hack” someone through getting their ROBLOSECURITY through clicking on their profile and going to Inspect Element to find their ROBLOSECURITY. What you view in Inspect Element is client-sided code, meaning you only view your own ROBLOSECURITY cookie, ever. Whenever you log out and log back in again, your ROBLOSECURITY cookie refreshes for security measures, so if you ever give your ROBLOSECURITY away, log out and log back in, and you should be safe. I tested this by viewing Inspect Element on two different ROBLOX profiles, and sure enough, both ROBLOSECURITY cookies were the same. This means that no matter whose profile you view, your always viewing your own ROBLOSECURITY. You can try this test too! Be aware that if you log out and log back in on any account while doing this test, you will get a different ROBLOSECURITY.

Another slightly less heard of scam is that users ask to change your email, then they do a password reset. Never change your email to an email that’s not yours!

Another more common issue is I’ve heard that there are keyloggers to take your ROBLOX info. Keyloggers are nasty programs that can be installed without you knowing, and they keep track of your keystrokes. Then, they send them to some malicious hacker who uses them to steal your login info.

I’ve heard that unless the keylogger is advanced, you can tell if you have a keylogger or not on your computer by right-clicking on the Taskbar, and clicking “Task Manager”. Head over to Processes and click on the Name tab to sort them by the name. Scroll down to W. If there’s only 1 item called “winlogon.exe”, you are generally safe. If there’s more than one, you have a keylogger and should do a system restore or scan using security tools that scan for keylogging software.

There are many fake ROBLOX website “surveys” that ask for your user info, and give you “free ROBUX”. These are always scams. There is no flawless way to get free ROBUX. And that’s a good thing. Don’t you want to earn your ROBUX skillfully instead of just having it? I sure do.

Another scam is that users chat in-game asking for your password, and offering free Builders Club/ROBUX/A free game. If they really want to give you all those things (besides Builders Club), it’s all doable without needing you to tell them the key to your ROBLOX goodies anyways.

Tell me if I missed any scams in the comments, and I will add them to this article. Be careful with posting any personal account info online for any website; especially a game with currency that you could lose in a jiff to a “hacker”.

That just about sums up this article. Tell me what you think, and anything I missed, in the comments.

Keep calm and BLOX on!
